European Commission adopts CBAM transitional period reporting rules
The Ministry of Trade announced that the CBAM transitional period starts on 1 October 2023 and runs to end-2025, with importers reporting embedded emissions.
In its Green Deal announcement of 17 August 2023, the Ministry of Trade reported that the European Commission had adopted the implementing rules for the transitional period of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).
According to the announcement, the transitional period starts on 1 October 2023 and runs until the end of 2025. The adopted Implementing Regulation sets the transitional reporting obligations for goods covered by CBAM and the methodology for calculating the emissions embedded in their production. The Commission also published guidance documents and a calculation template for EU importers and non-EU installations.
For companies exporting to the EU, this raises the need to collect and report product-level emissions data, which can be linked to ERP records.
